ROME (AP) — Pope Francis has unveiled his autobiography, “Hope: The Autobiography,” providing an unprecedented look at his personal life, papal challenges, and reflections on his papacy. Released Tuesday, ahead of the Catholic Church’s Holy Year, the book was initially planned for posthumous publication but arrives now at Francis' request, debuting in over 80 countries. As the first autobiography penned by a sitting pope, “Hope” offers unique insights into Pope Francis’ childhood in Buenos Aires, the dynamics of the 2013 conclave that elected him, and the resistance he has faced during his tenure. Drawn from six years of conversations with Italian journalist Carlo Musso, the book reveals unflinching self-reflection, with Francis admitting to past regrets, including childhood incidents that still trouble him. The autobiography also addresses controversial decisions made during his papacy and sheds light on his views of the challenges of leading the Church. Francis, at 88, presents a deeply introspective account, examining his life through the Jesuit tradition of conscience and humility. “Hope” is poised to resonate worldwide as a historic and personal narrative from one of the most influential figures of our time.
